It may come as a surprise to you that many Indonesians are fully aware of the primaries and political campaigns going on in America right now. When I am talking with people and they find out that I am an American and not an Australian, they quickly voice their support for Barack Obama (only one of my Javanese friends has told me he supports Hillary).
Why does everyone love him here? One of the reasons is because Obama spent some time in Indonesia as a boy. He went to school here. He is not Indonesian, but his stepfather was an Indonesian. And we thought we would be far away from all the election hoopla here in Bali... guess not.
