Sudah Gemuk

Kristi is, of course, getting more and more pregnant. She has started to show, but she has yet to grant permission for me to post any pictures of her and her pregnant belly... She recently went to her friend's house for a chat, and her friend said that Kristi is looking "sudah gemuk". This phrase means "already fat".

Probably not the best thing to say when in America, but it is no problem here. My friend told me that his wife is looking "gemuk". I thought that he was a bit unhappy with her physical appearance, but he said that looking "gemuk" is a good thing, it's a compliment. I tried to explain to him that if you told a woman in America that she looked fat, you would most likely be in big trouble. He instantly asked, "Why?" I think he still has trouble believing it.
