The strange thing is that the pilot asked to descend to about 5400 feet in a mountainous area which has several mountains that rise above 7000 feet. Stranger still, the pilot was given permission to descend. After the crash site was found, the rescue/recovery attempts were very difficult because of the dense forest and extremely rugged terrain.
