War Zone

New Year's Eve is one day away...  Usually in Bali, there are a decent number of people that set off fireworks on New Year's Eve.  However, this year, it seems like every single person in this city of about a million people has been setting off fireworks every night for the last two weeks.  It is a constant rumbling of explosions (as I'm typing this at 9:19pm, there is no end to the noise).  Much of it is off in the distance, but there are plenty of kids and people setting off a 'special' firework on our street.  It involves pouring gunpowder and some other unknown ingredient into an old bamboo branch and lighting it.  It is very, very loud.  

I can only imagine how noisy it will be for actual New Year's.  I did promise Kenan some fireworks, so we will be adding to the noise.
