Sometimes we get requests from people around Bali to come and visit their village in order to see if we can help them get better access to water. I went to a place near big Mount Agung to see if we could help out. It was a good trip and just another reminder of how many people are in need here. It just continues to amaze me how all these isolated areas have no immediate access to a good water source.
The people in this village have to drive motorbikes several kilometers just for a bucket of water. It is a relatively poor area. They grow flowers for the Hindu offerings, and the prices of the flowers have dropped significantly in the last few years which makes their situation even worse.
In the picture below, I peeked my head into their home they just got finished building, and there was a man lying on the floor. He looked very sick, and they were unsure of what was wrong with him. He had not been taken to a doctor, but he had been taken to the Hindu holy man. Seeing stuff like that is tough because we are well aware of how often people die in the rural areas from minor infections and sickness.
