Earthquake in Bali

Two weeks ago, we experienced the biggest earthquake since we arrived here in Indonesia. Because earthquakes happen all the time in Indonesia, we have become accustomed to hearing about an earthquake nearly every day. Usually there are only minor injuries and damage, and we had never felt anything major here in Bali except for minor tremors.

That all changed when early on a Saturday morning, all the windows of our house started rattling and it felt like our house was doing jumping jacks. The first major shaking didn't last very long, and there was more of like a gentle rocking motion after that. It was weird because for a brief moment, my brain didn't process that it was an earthquake, and I just sat there without reacting. I guess living in North Carolina your whole life doesn't do too much to prepare you for a big quake.

It was the talk of the town for the next couple of days. And everyone in Bali felt it so it didn't matter how far away from Denpasar we were, people still were talking about it.
