Tanggal 9 April 2009. Hari Pemilu. Election day in Indonesia- schools and government offices are closed and a lot of businesss are closed. The polls near our house and in other places will only be open for 5 hours (7am to 12noon).
My friend is a security monitor at one of the polling places. He has to arrive at 5:30am to make sure everything is ready. The counting, all done by hand, will begin shortly after noon. The results from local polling places should take about 6-7 hours, then they are sent to the election offices.
Above is an example of the voting card Indonesians will have to sift through for just the local legislative candidates. You have to know their party number, and underneath their party number is a bunch of candidates. You then have to mark their number. There are 44 parties, and some parties have as many as 12 candidates running...
