Here is a picture of our neighbors getting their daily chicken delivery. It usually happens at about 2-3pm. The smell is pretty bad, and all the feathers and other gross "chicken goo" gets all over the place. Not only are those poor little chickens being delivered to their doom, but they also have to be crammed into a small place in the back of a truck on the way to their doom. Bad deal for the chickens... We kind of joke about it, but all of our neighbors gossip about it possibly spreading bird flu. If you don't know about Indonesia and bird flu, you should google it sometime.
You might remember the blog post which described how our neighbors directly across the street from us butcher about 25 chickens every night. Now you got to understand, when I say "across the street", here that means they are close enough so that we hear them talking, laughing, etc in their house (and vice-versa) all day.
We recently started hearing a new noise at 2am every morning. It almost sounded like a washer when it is in spin cycle. I recently went over to investigate. Bapak Dewit is a nice old man who is always happy to talk, and so he showed me their new machine. It pulls all the feathers off the chickens! I had never seen anything like that, not even at the Schuler's house in NJ. Where as before they had to pluck all the feathers off by hand, now they just toss three chickens in the machine, and 30 seconds later they are featherless.
