Suku Apa? (Splitting it Up)

   When we first got to Indonesia seven years ago, everyone sounded the same.  Everyone looked the same.  Even though we knew there were lots of ethnic groups throughout the islands, in our minds, Indonesians were all lumped into one big group.

   However, the longer we've been there, the easier it has become to differentiate between the different language and ethnic groups.  We can hear and see differences now that we couldn't have imagined noticing all those years ago.

   This map gives you an idea of how many ethnic groups there are.  An Indonesian would probably go even further and divide the groups into smaller subgroups.  Remember you can click on the map to make it bigger...
