It's Galungan time of year again. This Hindu holy day happens once every 6 months and celebrates the victory of dharma over adharma.
It is most recognized here in Bali by the presence of thousands of penjor lining the streets (Penjor are the big bamboo poles that are decorated to reflect the appearance of the dragon that helped in creating the world). Hindus decorate this bamboo pole together as a family and will put it up with pride. Neighbors often will comment on the quality (or lack thereof) of penjor in the area.
Most families will return to their home village in order to pray in their village temple and to visit with family. We will be heading with a friend to his home village tomorrow. We're looking forward to it...
