With an abundance of cheap rice wine, cheap fireworks, lots of motorbikes, crowded roads, and everyone staying up, things can get a little wild in Denpasar. It's about quarter until midnight right now, and it sounds like a small war is happening outside of our house. This is the one night when even friends of mine that don't drink, drink. And drink lots and lots. It was an interesting ride home to say the least.
This made it a little more interesting, before we left the house earlier tonight for a New Year's Eve get together, we got this strange email from the US Embassy in Surabaya. It warned us about an "indication of an attack" in Bali tonight. We are about 30 minutes from all the touristy places, so we went out anyway and didn't worry much about anything. Got home tonight and the BBC had a story about it.
Here's the link, just in case you're interested.
