Our rainy season lasts from sometime in November to February. We usually get several big rains right around the new year, and this year was no different. A couple of weeks ago, it rained like cats and dogs all night long. Some friends say they had never seen rain like that before in Bali.
The picture here is our friend's house right after the big rain. Inside his house the water was up to his knees. Mud also came in and ruined a lot of his things. Many people in Denpasar were in a similar situation.
The next day we tried to drive to a friend's house and a 15 minute drive turned into an hour long trek. We drove through water that came halfway up our car's tires. Lots of people were wading around their houses and the roads. Three times we had to turn back and find an alternate route because the water was just too high. At one point, I asked a guy if I could pass the road ahead, and he said it would be no problem. Two ladies were standing behind him telling me not to do it. A small crowd gathered to see what the bule (white guy) would decide to do and also to offer their opinion of the situation. It was a fun experience.
The road into our neighborhood was covered with water for about five days after that big rain, and most of the cracks in our roof that we repaired last year started to leak again.
I love rainy season.
